Compared to Greg

In an attempt to put Greg Maddux's unprecedented (and grossly underrated) career in perspective, I will from time to time temper the baseball world's excitement over current baseball achievements with comparisons to true greatness.

Much is being made over Roger Clemens' dominance on the road this season. He has a record of 6-2 with an amazing 0.52 ERA in 13 starts. Just as impressive is Chris Carpenter's 11-0 record and 1.48 ERA on the road this season. But they are both a long way from this...

On July 2, 1994, Greg Maddux began a streak of road dominance that was then unheard of and which has never since been approached. He would not lose a game on the road from that day until April of 1996.

That's right, on top of not losing a road start the rest of the '94 season, he went the entire 1995 season without losing one either.

From July 2, 1994 through the end of the 1995 season, Greg Maddux went 18-0 in 20 road starts with an 0.99 ERA. His 18 straight road wins remain the Major League record.

Greg Maddux...best pitcher ever.
