I could accuse me of such things that it were better my mother had not borne me. I am very proud, revengeful, ambitious, with more offences at my beck than I have thoughts to put them in, imagination to give them shape, or time to act them in. What should such fellows as I do crawling between earth and heaven? We are arrant knaves all. Believe none of us.

In my heart there was a kind of fighting that would not let me sleep. I thought I lay worse than a rebel in the shackles. Rashly--and praised be rashness for it--let us know our indiscretion sometimes serves us well when our deep plots do pall; and that should teach us there's a divinity that shapes our ends, rough-hew them how we will.

My friends, George Lucas has disappointed me alot in the last ten years, but he may have just made up for all of it.

Academy Award Winner* and certified member of my "top 5," Cate Blanchett, has just been handed a starring role opposite Harrison Ford in the as-yet untitled fourth adventure of Indiana Jones. Executive producer, Georgy boy, and his director, STEVEN SPIELBERG!!!!!, will begin shooting this June in L.A. and in undiclosed locales around the world. The movie will be released on May 25, 2008, 19 years to the day since the release of the third Indy adventure, "The Last Crusade."

*In an earlier post, while griping about Jennifer Hudson's Oscar win, I wrongly stated the Cate Blanchett was not an Oscar winner. I was angry and momentarily brain-dead. She won for "The Aviator" two years ago.

Low Irony

I love irony (probably why JOHN is my favorite book). I've been asked often by friends and students to give an example of irony. I discovered a new one the other day when I read that a summit on global warming was cancelled due to ice. And then, yesterday, I enacted another.

I was reading a book by Paul Tripp and Tim Lane on relationships while driving home from my parents' house. Yes, not a bright decision, but reading in the car is now a habit. As I exit the expressway, I glance up from my book and notice that the light is turning yellow. I decide to try to beat it. I shift the car into second gear and prepare to turn with book still in hand. While making a ferocious left-hand "bat-turn" under the red light, I repeat aloud the last sentence I had read: "God made us rational creatures who make choices based on the way we..." I never finished the sentence. A nearly full pitcher of tea that my mom had just sent home with me, and that I had forgotten about, slides across the floor board, slams against the passenger door and fills the entire right side of my car with sweet tea.

How good it is to be a rational human being on God's good earth!
