Greg Maddux beat the first place (not anymore!) Arizona Diamondbacks today for the second time in 5 days to give his team its first lead in the NL West in over a month. It was his 11th win of the season and the 344th of his ridiculous career. Down the stretch of the season, Maddux has been at his best. In his last 10 starts, he's 4-2 with a 2.49 ERA. In that span, he has issued 2 walks, both coming in a game at Houston on July 28th. He has not walked a batter now in 7+ games, that's 49 1/3 innings. He is still several games away from the National League record for consecutive innings without a walk: 73 1/3 innings set by (you guessed it) Greg Maddux in 2001. He was only a few innings short of the Major League record then, but he ended his streak by issuing an intentional walk. By the way, he also doubled today and scored a run.

Believe it or not, I was following that game. It was interesting to hear Maddux say how much the early run support helps a pitcher (he didn't have to worry about their base runners).
I believe it. And I keep up with your Dawgs.
